GREAT FALLS — Due to social distancing, Saint Ann’s Cathedral will be serving their weekly meals outside to the parking lot outside of the Heisey Community Center at the corner of 4th Avenue North and 7th Street North.
While volunteers typically provide those in need of food with a warm meal and a place to eat it, the city’s current restrictions limit their ability to do so.
Instead, food recipients will line up six feet apart and collect their food in a linear fashion, without any physical contact with each other or the workers.
Prior to the city’s social restrictions, food recipient Jason Ledeau used to look forward to his weekly trip to St. Ann’s soup kitchen.
“I don’t like to eat alone so this is my way of getting with other people and stuff before this coronavirus hit,” Ledeau said.
In these difficult times, he’s grateful for the community support and has adapted to this new form of food service.
“These guys are doing an awesome job down here,” Ledeau said. “Before all this hit, we were actually eating inside there, you know. They had hot soups and stuff. but i don't mind. All I do is take my stuff packed to my house and put it in a pan and heat it up. That way and stuff you know if it's cold soup and stuff you know.”
If you are in need, you’re welcome to come pick up a free, sack lunch any Friday between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
As of Saturday morning (March 28), there are 129 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Montana, and one death. There are no confirmed reports at this time about the number of patients who have recovered. Public health officials know that the number of cases is likely substantially higher than the number of confirmed cases. As of Saturday morning, the public health laboratory in Helena has completed 3,385 tests.
