GREAT FALLS — Tuesday's first presidential debate seemed to have a lot of people in Great Falls interested Tuesday afternoon.
"This election's all about this country, whether we're going socialist or we're remaining a free republic like we have been," said Great Falls resident Al Gray.
"I still need to be able to make a decision between the competitors," said Margaret Beatty of Great Falls.
"I haven't seen much of Joe Biden. He hasn't been on TV much. I want to see how he performs, what he has to say and how he deals with the debate with Donald Trump," said Kim Hawley of Cascade County.
You could say their reasons for wanting to watch the presidential debate are a representation of the two candidates they'll be watching. Similar, yet different. Both candidates have had terms in the White House, Trump as the current president and Biden as vice president for eight years, but that's about where their similarities end.
As for what locals want to hear?
"There's a lot of issues. Immigration's a big one, especially with this COVID thing. That ties right in with this COVID. How long this lockdown's going on and everything else. We're not getting the truth from the media," said Gray.
"In my opinion, I think they seriously need to talk about being nice to each other," Beatty said.
"I'm interested in the economy and how the economy is going to improve. I'm interested in the Supreme Court," Hawley said. "Also how Biden would handle the COVID, whether he would have a lockdown or not."
The next debate is scheduled for October 15.
