GREAT FALLS — This weekend the Silver Crest Trails Association is offering a way you can learn to cross-country ski for free.

On Saturday, skiers of all levels from beginner to pro are welcome to join instructors at Silver Crest Trails for a course in cross-country skiing.

Silver Crest Trails provides the instruction and Bighorn Outdoor Specialists supply the gear including skis, boots, and bindings.

Bighorn owner Chris Leatham said this is a chance for those who've never skied to try something new that can help make the winter season more fun.

“It gets people a chance who've maybe been on the fence about trying it. it's a no-cost way to do it,” Leatham said.

Leatham explained the event is more about getting people outdoors than making a profit.

“We hope to get a few sales out of it but more than anything we want people to get out and enjoy winter because if you don't enjoy the snow in Montana, winter gets really long,” Leatham said.

If you don't have your own skis and boots and are planning to attend this weekend's ski clinic, call Bighorn Outdoor Specialists at 406-453-2841 to reserve your equipment. Bighorn is located at 206 5th Street South.

The Silver Crest Trails are located in the Little Belt Mountains of Central Montana, just off Highway 89, about 6.5 miles south of Neihart on the west side of the highway, and about two miles north of Showdown Montana Ski Area.
