Large police presence on west side of Great Falls

GREAT FALLS — The Great Falls Police Department said just after 2 p.m. that a man has been taken into custody after triggering a large response from officers on Wednesday.

The man reportedly was roaming the neighborhood with a cross-bow and threatening to harm himself or others.

The incident started late in the morning, and after a four-standoff with the man - whose name has not been released - he was taken into custody without harm to anyone involved.

The GFPD said in a Facebook post: "We are proud of the efforts of the GFPD negotiators and other officers on scene."

(1st REPORT, 12:07 pm) There is a large police presence on the west side of Great Falls. There are numerous patrol vehicles and officers, along with Great Falls Fire Rescue and at least one ambulance.

The affected area is between Central Avenue West and 2nd Street SW, from 6th Street SW to 8th Street SW.

The Great Falls Police Department said at 12:07 pm: "We are working a potentially volatile situation in the 700 block of 2nd Avenue Southwest. We have contact with residents in immediate proximity to the situation and have asked them to shelter in their homes. If you need to travel to or from this area please alter your plans/route until further notice."

One person who lives in the area told KRTV that police said a possibly suicidal person was roaming the neighborhood with a cross-bow.
