GREAT FALLS — Great Falls Police Chief David Bowen is preparing to hang up the badge after three decades with the city’s police department.

Bowen announced this week that he will retire on April 2. He says retirement is bittersweet, but says he is ready for the change.

One thing he’s especially proud of is the way the department has worked to engage the community: "As a team, moving forward, the police department is in great shape. The leadership team here is going to just take what we've done here with me as the chief and make it even better."

Once he retires he plans to help his wife, who is self-employed.

There is no word yet on who his successor will be.
