GREAT FALLS — The mayor of Great Falls will soon be helping a national organization work with the federal government to help cities across the country.
Mayor Bob Kelly has been appointed to a serve a one-year term on the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations Committee of the National League of Cities.
He’ll provide guidance for the league’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities.
Kelly says municipal bonds will be a big focus for him: "The tax exemption on municipal bonds, which cities and counties and states use all the time, is always under attack in Washington. So because of my background as a municipal bond trader and underwriter with D.A. Davidson, I'll be back there helping to advocate to members up on the hill and explaining why that tax exemption is so critical,” Kelly explained.
Kelly said he is glad to have the opportunity to serve: "My hope is to provide a voice for Great Falls and communities like ours to help shape federal policy that is inclusive and beneficial to Montanans."
