In the video below, Brianna Juneau reports on some out-of-the-ordinary clients at The Bark Of The Town Dog Grooming - goats!
Most pet groomers spend their days trimming and brushing out dogs and the occasional cat, but for The Bark of the Town, the job description has taken a rural turn – straight to the barnyard. The Great Falls-based groomer has taken on the challenge of goat grooming.
“Someone came in and asked if we could do their goats and we got all really excited. We’ve never done that before,” explained the salon owner, Danielle Lisenbee. “We just love all animals. So, it doesn’t matter if it’s a bunny, a goat, little guinea pigs, whatever it is, we can pretty much groom anything.”
Goat grooming isn’t exactly standard practice in the pet industry but for goat owners, keeping their animals trimmed can prevent matting, over-heating, and other health issues. And just like dogs, the two goats sat still and seemed to enjoy the process.
“Sometimes I think they behave better than some dogs that we do, for sure. They’re really sweet.” Groomer, Mika Bruner laughed. “I’ve, like, groomed miniature horses at home and stuff, but I never thought to groom a goat. So, I was like, yeah, this is awesome.”
As their slogan says, “Big or small, we groom them all,” the groomers are putting that sign to the test. It’s not just trims and shears that are turning heads, the salon also specializes in fur dyeing, bringing a splash of creativity to the salon. As the business grows, the groomers say they wouldn’t mind adding new animals to the list and dyeing them as well.
Mika added, “I just figured at some point it’d be really cool to, like, get more into the creative side of it and then, like, start dyeing goats.”
Whether it’s a fluffy doodle or a shaggy farm goat, The Bark of the Town is proving that every animal deserves to look its best.
