GREAT FALLS — Social distancing isn't stopping Great Falls firefighters from carrying on the decades-long "Fill The Boot" fundraising tradition.
Usually during the first week of October, Great Falls Fire Rescue firefighters would stand along 10th Avenue South in Great Falls for the annual donation campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Due to coronavirus concerns, this year's fundraiser is all virtual. Businesses are also teaming up with GFFR to donate part of their proceeds. The majority of money raised through "Fill The Boot" stays in Montana to help families, research and more.
Great Falls Fire Rescue Engineer Tucker Cook, who is in charge of the fundraiser, says getting to meet the kids impacted by the money at a special camp was a life changing experience.
"Going to that camp and meeting all the kids and hearing their story and seeing how much that camp meant to them and seeing where the money goes is big to me so that's why I took over and why it's been important to me,” explained Cook.
