Wednesday, August 14th marks five years since the death of Cascade County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph James Dunn.

Dunn, 33 years old, was fatally hit by a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase with deputies on Highway 87 near Belt in 2014.

The suspect was captured after heading back to Great Falls and sentenced to life in prison without parole for murder in 2015.

Dunn's death marked the fifth officer fatality by vehicular assault in the state.

According to the Officer Down Memorial page, nearly 130 Montana officers have lost their lives in the line of duty.

To mark the somber anniversary, MTN will speak with Bob Edwards, who was Cascade County Sheriff when Dunn lost his life in the line of duty.
