GREAT FALLS – Two new members of the Great Falls Public School Board of Trustees were sworn in Monday.
Mark Finnicum and Gordon Johnson will replace Ann Janikula and Laura Vukasin. Trustee Jeff Gray was also sworn-in as he will continue his service on the board.
An election was not held as there were three open seats and only three people filed.
Newly-elected trustee Mark Finnicum said he is excited to be a part of the decision-making process for the school district.
“The big thing is always the mental battle between the people and the budget. When I say people, I’m talking about the staff and the kids, there’s always a fine line where there’s only so many resources,” he said. “We have to stretch those resources as far as they go. That will be a fun, challenging thing.”
He added he believes he will be a good asset to the team.
“I think I bring a very good financial background to the board and good decision-making abilities. That’s also one of those things every board is dramatically needing. Not saying that the board has done a poor job in the past, but I look forward to being able to help with that,” Finnicum said.
During the meeting, the board voted to keep trustee Jan Cahill as the chair. They also voted Jeff Gray to take on the role as vice chairman.
