While the Great Falls Rescue Mission offers meals and a place to stay for those in need, it also provides medical services.

The medical services offered will expand throughout the coming months.

All medical services are completed at the Cameron Family Center, located at 408 2nd Ave. South, and are open to the public.

The services are done on a walk-in basis and include: dental, general medical clinics, family physician/women’s health services, optical exams, chiropractic exam and sometimes podiatry services.

In addition to those services, the Rescue Mission also partners with Great Falls College MSU. Students studying in the medical field intern at the Mission and help with preventative care, such as giving flu shots.

“We’re just about trying to help people kind of fill in the gap. We don’t want to be everybody’s permanent provider, but before they can really get seen at the county health or wherever their doctor’s going to be, we want to make sure that they have a place,” Jim Kizer, executive director of the Great Falls Rescue Mission, said.

The Rescue Mission also offers hair care with a barber shop for men and a beauty salon for women.

Kizer added, “We’re concerned about the whole care of the person because we know that for a person to really do well and to have that new job and their new place and everything, they’ve got to be healthy, they’ve got to feel good about themselves and feel like they are worthy. So that’s what we’re looking at, not only providing them food and clothing, but how else can we help them.”

He said providers love to help at the Mission because they are not worried about paperwork or insurance, they’re just doing what they want to do, which is help people.

The free medical services at the Great Falls Rescue Mission are at the following times:

Dental (mostly extractions and emergent services): First Monday of the month at 9 a.m.

General Medical Clinics: Every Tuesday 6-8 p.m.
