GREAT FALLS – A Great Falls woman is turning her dream into a reality. “We worked hard on building the business through farmer’s markets, opening a frozen shop in Times Square, and this was the next step,” Paulette Wright said.

Wright is leaving her job of 18 years at the Montana Highway Patrol and opening her own pasty shop where she will sell hot, fresh pastys Monday through Fridays.

The shop is called Mrs. Wright’s Pastys and is located at 1008 20th Street South.

“I’m going to do this full time, which is not really retiring. It’s leaving a desk job to work harder. Work harder than I ever worked really,” Wright said.

The recipe goes way back. Wright said her favorite childhood memories include making the pastys with her mom.

“This is my mom’s recipe. My mom died when I was 21. I remember making pastys with my mom as a kid. I’ve worked the recipe and worked on it, it would never come out right. But I finally figured it out, there was a trick, it’s not my secret and I will not be sharing that,” Wright said.

And just like her childhood, she is including the whole family in the business.

“My daughter and I are going to just put everything in to it. It’s awesome. My kids have been my biggest support and have been really encouraging,” Wright said.

Wright will be open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. She will sell fresh, frozen and continue to cater.

She opens Monday, May 20th.

“We’re just planning on having it be our own little business and be our home away from home,” Wright said. “It’s a really neat family business that brings us all together.”
