The Cascade County Commission approved Tuesday the funding needed for a study examining a livestock zone at Montana ExpoPark.
The original study took place in 2014 and reviewed how Great Falls could benefit from a multi-purpose event center. A second study then considered what other improvements would be needed should a center be built.
“It seems this could be the final step to making this plan final and go into a direction as a community and as a region to move forward with some options that could be really impactful to our economy,” Rebecca Engum, Great Falls Montana Tourism director, said.
County Commissioner Jane Weber said the commission recognizes the current difficulties with livestock operations.
She said the work under the contract will include additional stakeholder outreach, research, and analysis on alternative locations for livestock activities. A revised layout and draft report will also be a part of the study.
Organizations who utilize the livestock zones at Montana ExpoPark will be consulted.
The total professional fees for the study will not exceed $27,500.
