A former assistant fire chief has been chosen as the next Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator for Cascade County.
Cascade County Commissioners selected Ron Scott to oversee the DES office. He will assume his duties on June 1.
“We had several fine candidates, but Ron’s experience with fire operations and his understanding of emergency services made this choice clear,” Commissioner Joe Briggs said.
Scott’s experience with emergency incidents spans 25 years and includes his appointment to assistant fire chief/chief of operations for Great Falls Fire Rescue in 2015.
He has an OSHA certificate in Hazardous Waste Management and is versed in the FEMA Incident Command System used for management of large natural or man-caused incidents.
He also formerly served on the Emergency Management Services (EMS) Advisory Board for Great Falls.
Scott will replace interim DES coordinator Scott Van Dyken of the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, who has served in the position for almost six months.
Van Dyken acted in place of former Cascade County undersheriff John Stevens, who is facing felony charges for theft from the CCSO.
