GREAT FALLS – The 27th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday, May 11.

“Hunger doesn’t take a vacation,” Great Falls Community Food Bank executive director Shaun Tatarka said.

The National Association of Letter Carriers’ is partnering with the Great Falls Community Food Bank to collect thousands of pounds of food.

People are encouraged to leave non-perishable food by their front door or near their mailbox Saturday by 8:30 a.m. Volunteers or letter carriers will then pick up the donations between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.

“I want to help out. It’s good to give back to the community. This is a great community. It’s pretty neat to see the way they take care of us as letter carriers,” Marcus Delgado, city letter carrier, said. “In the winter, they’re like, ‘Do you want to come in for a cup of cocoa?’ And in the summer they’ll ask us if we want water. I love this community. It’s good to see how people give back.”

This time of year is critical to the food bank because they see a decline in donations.

“It’s extremely gratifying and humbling at the same time to know that we live in a community that supports us as well as they do,” Tatarka said.

In years past, the turnout was great. This year they hope to reach a donation goal of 25,000 lbs. of food.

“This food drive will carry us through August,” Tatarka said.

If you wish to volunteer on Saturday, you can call the Great Falls Community Food Bank at 406-452-9029.
