(GREAT FALLS) On Friday, the fourth annual “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” Blood Drive took place at the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce.

Donors could give a pint of blood and receive a pint of ice cream, a coupon for a pint of beer at the Celtic Cowboy and a $5 Amazon gift card.

Scott Shanahan, senior donor recruitment representative at the American Red Cross, says donations tend to drop at the start of May.

“We try to get the donors out to come donate and save lives,” Shanahan said.

In just one donation, you can save three lives.

“There’s no substitute for human blood. You can save three lives with one donation,” Shanahan said.

He says events such as these usually bring in a lot of donors.

“It’s usually pretty good. Great Falls really turns out and comes to this drive,” Shanahan said.

He says there is always a need for donations and encourages everyone to do it.

“It’s really easy to do. I know there is a fear of needles out there, but if you donate one time, you’ll come back and do it again. You’ll find there’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s really easy to do,” Shanahan said.

If you missed today’s event, there will be others next month.

You can also make an appointment to donate by visiting the American Red Cross’s website.
