BLACK EAGLE – Despite the winter weather, a big crowd turned out to support local farmer and robotics coach Chuck Merja.
Last year, Merja was severely burned in a farming accident.
Today, he celebrated his recovery with dozens of family and friends at a fundraiser in Black Eagle.
The lunch and auction raised money to help pay some of his outstanding medical expenses.
Merja said he was honored to have so much support and was happy to be celebrating his life.
“Not very many people get to go to their own funeral right?” Merja said, “And I feel like I have already had the best obituary written that could be written, and a great celebration of life end, it is helpful to have some of the medical stuff handled so I cannot worry about that anymore.”
Merja recently returned from Houston, where the Sun River Robotics Team took second place in the World Robotics Championship.
