HIBIKIYA, Lethbridge’s authentic Japanese Taiko drumming group, will perform at the 40th Ice Breaker Road Race on Sunday, April 28.

Lethbridge Twinning Society is celebrating the Sister City designation between Lethbridge and Great Falls and will travel with HIBIKIYA to the Electric City this weekend. Lethbridge Twinning Society members have participated in the Ice Breaker annually since 2006.

HIBIKIYA, under the direction of sensei Bryan Pereverseff, performs original Japanese Taiko, which has been gifted to them from their sister groups in Lethbridge’s “Sister City”, Towada City, Japan. HIBIKIYA is affiliated with and supported by the Southern Alberta Taiko Society.

Patty Rearden, director of the Ice Breaker, said city officials are excited to have the talented group perform at the race.

“They provide excellent entertainment and perform a type of music you don’t get to hear every day,” she said.

HIBIKIYA will perform on the stage in the Convention Center at the Civic Center at 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. just prior to the Awards Ceremony.

The performances are free in the spirit of the Lethbridge community extending the ‘hands of friendship’ across the United States border, according to a press release.
