Cascade County officials are assuring the public they are prepared for large scale flooding.
A press release states response is ongoing regarding localized flooding, and appropriate personnel are meeting and preparing in case efforts are needed.
With data collected, including evaluations of snowpack and longterm weather outlooks, no Cascade County communities appear to be high risk for large scale flooding at this time.
“We are committed to the safety and wellbeing of our residents and will continue to assess, plan, and act accordingly,” stated interim Disaster and Emergency Services coordinator Scott Van Dyken.
Officials advised individuals to take measures to protect their property and prepare for any potential water that may impact them through snowmelt or other means.
Those steps include:
- Visiting www.cchdmt.org for up to date flooding information and numerous fact sheets that can be useful in preparing for, responding to, and cleaning up after flood waters. If larger scale flooding occurs, the official source of information for Cascade County is www.cchdmt.org. This site will be consistently updated with information.
- Staying out of flood waters. Do not drive through a flooded road. The depth of water is not always obvious.
- Planning travel routes to specifically stay out of impacted areas. Responders, residents, transportation officials, and others are working diligently to minimize the impact of flood waters. Additional people in the area can get in the way of these efforts, become stranded, or find themselves in danger.
