GREAT FALLS – On Saturday afternoon, the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office issued a flash flood warning via social media for the Sun River area.
“There are ice jams on the Sun River near Mud Creek,” CCSO wrote. “If the ice jams break it COULD cause a flash flood.”
The post further elaborated, saying, “Scott Van Dyken is on scene assessing the situation.”
Van Dyken is the acting coordinator of the Cascade County Department of Emergency Services (DES).
The Cascade County DES website advises individuals at risk of flash flooding to “know your evacuation route;” “move furniture and belongings to upper floors;” and “keep materials like sandbags, plastic sheeting, plywood and lumber handy for emergency water proofing.”
