(GREAT FALLS) The 25th Annual Scouting for Food Drive is on Saturday.

Both boy scouts and girl scouts will be going from door to door, collecting nonperishable foods for the Great Falls Community Food Bank.

“Having the scouts get involved is great. It’s very important that we teach the kids that tough times can happen to anybody. Being helpful even in a small way, one can on your doorstep, is going to make a difference to somebody somewhere,” Fund Development Coordinator Beth McKinney said.

McKinney said the food bank needs everything, but the top items that go fast are canned fruit, meat, soup, peanut butter and cereal.

She added that donations and hosting events such as these keep the bank up and running and that it’s great seeing the younger generation get involved.

“That one can can be the difference between eating today and not eating for the next week. Getting those kids out there and getting them to realize what an impact they can have, even at a young age, is paramount.” McKinney said.

The scouts will begin pickup at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The food bank asks that you do not donate anything in a glass container for the safety of the scouts.

If by any chance your donation does not get picked up, you can either call the Scout offices or bring it down to the Great Falls Community Food Bank.
