As the snow piles up, your roof becomes weighted down, which has caused concern for the Salvation Army in Great Falls.
The roof of the Salvation Army’s Family Services building is sagging under the snow. The shifting of the roof has caused ceiling tiles to begin falling out of place.
Warehouse Manager Jesse Oldham said they experience problems every year, but this is the worst he’s seen.
The Salvation Army is now working with a local company to have the snow removed. The large, nearly flat roof is a big job.
One crew already put in a full day of work, but a large portion of the roof remains covered in nearly two feet of snow.
With more snow and cold expected, Oldham said they needed to act for the safety of their staff.
“I think with all the flat roofs, and if you look around here you can see several of them on some warehouses and everything, that if people don’t start paying attention to their building and if it doesn’t warm up or the wind doesn’t blow the snow off, a lot more people are going to be having a problem,” said Oldham.
It has been eight years since the last time the Salvation Army had the roof cleared off.
Oldham explained that was because of a late season snow that was especially wet and heavy.
