The Great Falls Ice Plex is inviting the public to skate away the winter blues Sunday, February 24 from 3- 5 p.m. at their Winterfest event.
The event allows the community to come out and learn about the different programs hosted at the Ice Plex including learn-to-skate lessons and the various hockey leagues.
There will be demonstrations and skating tips from the Great Falls Figure Skaters and hockey players.
The Great Falls Ice Plex is a nonprofit and is currently looking to fundraise money to fix the boards that surround the rink. Without the boards, hockey cannot be played on the ice.
There are also various other maintenance issues that need to be fixed.
President of the Figure Skating Club Jenn Rowell said, “It’s the only rink in town anymore and a bunch of groups are here, the figure skaters, youth hockey, women’s hockey, men’s hockey, Americans, University of Providence has started a team and I think they’re trying to grow the women’s team. So, we’re growing but the rink needs a lot of work.”
Winterfest’s open skate event is $5 for adults, $4 for kids aged 6-17 and free for ages 5 and under.
Skate rentals are $3.
