(GREAT FALLS) Many in the Great Falls community are mourning a loss as residents at Trailer Terrace recently lost one of their biggest supporters: Don Feist.

Don passed away on January 23 at the age of 58.

“He was a fighter and never gave up,” Feist’s 12-year-old son Joseph Feist said.

Don was known for his passion for his community. He purchased the park and managed the upper court.

“Every day we’d used to have to go shut off the water pumps because the tanks would overflow. That was pretty cool,” Joseph said.

He was an advocate for their drinking water and was able to get residents a new water and sewer system.

“He loved being the Co-Op president and I enjoyed that, too. I had something to do in the summertime with him. We’d spend time with each other and go pay the bills. It was fun,” Joseph said.

Don was an award winner. Among many, he received the Dorothy Richardson Award for his leadership.

“He was one of the only people that got it in Montana and that’s pretty cool to know the he’s pretty much famous,” Joseph said.

He was a role model to many but one especially to his 12-year-old son.

We’d always go out and have fun, laugh and joke with each other,” Joseph said.

Although Don is not with us anymore, his family is determined to keep his legacy alive.

“As soon as I’m old enough, I plan to go become the Co-Op president,” Joseph said.
