Get Fit Great Falls postpones Winter Trails Day due to government shutdown

Posted

Get Fit Great Falls said they are pushing back their annual Winter Trails Day because of the government shutdown.

Get Fit Great Falls has hosted the event in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service for 13 years.

The goal is to get people outside and active while giving them a chance to snowshoe or cross country ski.

The event was set for February 2, but now it is postponed until late February or early March.

In past years as many as 300 people have turned out for the day at Silver Crest Winter Recreation Area, but Get Fit Great Falls says it cannot be done without the Forest Service.

“The Forest Service really is a vital part of our Winter Trails Day,” said Get Fit Great Falls board member Lacey Gallagher. “With the shutdown, we don’t have access to snowshoes, walkie-talkies, volunteers, and so many of the things that individuals from the Forest Service provided.”

The new date for Winter Trails Day will be announced at a later time.
