(GREAT FALLS) The Montana School for the Deaf and Blind has partnered with the Lions Club to purchase new devices that will help low vision kids succeed.
The device is called the Prodigi Connect 12 and the school is looking to purchase 100 of them for kids across the state.
Each device is essentially a smart tablet that can enlarge print 46 times such as putting something under a magnify glass.
It also has a camera that will enable the student to see anywhere in the classroom from the seat at their desk.
The Lions Club recently secured a $100,000 grant from the Lions Club International Foundation.
Aside from that money, the Lions Club District 37 is pushing their efforts to raise money and match whatever donations the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind raise.
Project representative Jack Beckman said although each individual device costs a significant amount of money, it will be worth it for the student in the long run.
“This is going to put those people in to the main stream work force at the cheapest cost that we can possibly come up with. The $3,000 we’re spending now is just pennies compared to the amount of money these kids will generally generate back into the society,” Beckman said.
The Lion’s Club and MSDB are still looking to raise more money for the Prodigi Connect 12.
