Although it has been in the works since last spring, NeighborWorks Great Falls announced their upcoming plans to the public last week at the Great Falls Development Authority Ignite event.

They introduced Meriwether Crossing, which will be a new development totaling 20.6 acres located in Cascade County adjacent to Great Falls along 20th Street South and 24th Avenue South.

This currently bare land is in close proximity to MSU Great Falls, University of Providence, Benefis, Talus Apartments, and NeighborWorks’ other new project, RockCress Commons.

NeighborWorks Great Falls Executive Director Sherrie Arey said, “Meriwether Crossing development is in the heart of a huge developing area in Great Falls on the south side.”

Meriwether Crossing will be developed into a total of 83 lots. A minimum of 50 lots will be dedicated to NeighborWorks’ Owner Build Program while the remaining 33 lots will be for single family homes.

The Owner Build Program is a part of a Rule Development Grant where families work together as a community to build their homes together.

Arey added, “We’re really excited about bringing this because they’re smaller footprints, so we’re hoping that these homes can be for, that we’re going to do, for starter families, starter homes, and then for families that may be looking to downsize and move into a smaller home closer to the health corridor.”

The name Meriwether Crossing is connected to Lewis and Clark and Great Falls’ history.

Arey said, “When we found that that name wasn’t really being utilized anywhere, and that this area was in fact one of the areas that had Lewis and Clark crossing, it really came together.”

NeighborWorks Great Falls is in the process of finalizing their contract with M&D Construction and is planning to begin infrastructure work this spring and summer.
