The resident wind quintet of the Great Falls Symphony is extending a hand to federal employees affected by the government shutdown.

The Chinook Winds will perform “Airs of Eastern Europe” Sunday and Tuesday and federal workers who are furloughed or working without pay can enjoy the music for free.

Attendees must show their government ID at admission.

Mighty Mo Brewing Company will also unveil a new seasonal brew Sunday inspired by the “eastern European” concert theme.

To enjoy the first taste of the special seasonal, you’re invited to go to the concert.

The January concerts showcase a mix of styles from an angsty, dissonant, even ‘pointy’ work by Gyorgy Kurtag that reflects the challenge of living under Soviet rule in occupied Hungary to the fun, accessible, yet unpredictable 1932 Quintet for Wind Instruments by highly acclaimed female Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz, according to the Great Falls Symphony’s website.

The events take place Sunday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at the University of Providence’s Trinitas Chapel (1301 20th Street South) and Tuesday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge (821 Central Avenue).
