A craft butcher shop is hoping to open by December in downtown Great Falls.

Geraldine native Drew Hicks announced at the Great Falls Development Authority’s ‘Ignite Great Falls’ event that he hopes to open Central Avenue Meats before the next Christmas Stroll.

The butcher shop will include dry-aged meat, cut-to-order products, unique sausage and bacon varieties, and local and ethically-raised products.

Central Avenue Meats is planned to be in the former JJ Newberry ‘five and dime’ building next to Mighty Mo Brewing Company at 420 Central Avenue. The building was built in 1897.

Hicks told attendees asbestos has been an obstacle they are working to overcome, however, he’s excited for the community to see the final product.
