Eagle Mount ski program short on volunteers

Eagle Mount is still in need of volunteers for their adaptive ski program.

Right now they have about 30 volunteers, but Program Coordinator Stephanie Richardson says they need about 60 to operate smoothly.

The adaptive ski program provides an opportunity for people with special needs to experience winter recreation.

If you are interested in helping the adaptive ski program, there is a mandatory training Thursday, January 10th from 6:00-8:00 at the Eagle Mount Activity Center at 1065 Franklin Ave, Great Falls.

That training is followed by additional training at Showdown Ski Area on the 12th and 13th.

The goal is to take volunteers from skier to instructor for a fun and safe experience.

“It’s really important for people to be able to focus on someone else while skiing or snowboarding themselves, so I would say that’s at least an intermediate level skier or snowboarder, the better you are the easier of a time you’re going to have,” says Richardson.

Last year, Eagle Mount helped more than 90 people with various needs get out on the slopes.

Volunteers will spend about two and a half hours helping adaptive skiers, but the rest of the day is for the volunteers to enjoy the snow with a free lift ticket.
