For 26 years, the Danny Berg Memorial Dinner has carried out a Christmas mission.

“Our motto is nobody should be alone on Christmas,” said Danny Berg Dinner Chairman Wade Gehl.

People began filing into the Great Falls Senior Center a little before noon on Christmas Day.

The dinner has grown into a time of togetherness for people of all walks of life.

“It’s just a social environment that we’ve got here, the people that come aren’t necessarily all needy people that come in, you can see by our crowd,” said Gehl.

He estimated that about 600 people came to eat, talk, and enjoy some Christmas cheer.

While everyone is welcome, not everyone can make it to the Senior Center and for those who stayed in, the meals came to them.

Volunteers like the Nash family delivered meals to people who called in.

“We feel people need assistance and I think they need cheering up more than anything,” said Kathy Nash.

Dozens of volunteers spent hours of their Christmas Day serving and delivering food for the body and soul.

“I think to know that somebody cares even if you don’t have family here in Great Falls is a very giving community and we support each other,” said Dianne Nash.

The meal was started by Danny Berg who believed that no one should be alone on Christmas. Berg passed away from a battle with cancer in 2008, but his legacy lives on.

“It’s a community for a community, we’re not really affiliated with any specific cause it’s just volunteers that come together and provide a great meal for other people in the community,” explained Gehl.

It’s a simple act of service that is so much more than a meal.
