The Great Falls City Commission approved several items on Tuesday’s agenda including an agreement concerning the management of the city’s two golf courses and a conditional use permit for a proposed sports facility.

Commissioners approved a three-year management agreement with a California-based company to manage the city’s municipal golf courses.

According to city officials, CourseCo has extensive experience managing golf courses and sees Anaconda Hills and Eagle Falls as community assets.

The courses are operating at a $1 million debt to the city’s general fund and CourseCo’s objective is to make the courses profitable to help reduce the deficit.

CourseCo was one of two proposers the city received after issuing a request for proposals for creative lease management on August 24. The second proposal was from the Great Falls Baseball Club.

CourseCo was recommended due to the company’s experience and high level of success, according to city documents.

The agreement will begin on February 1, 2019. CourseCo is expected to take one or more seasons to determine the full profitability of the courses and the agreement allows maximum flexibility of course operations.

The Golf Advisory Board will continue to operate and will provide insight to the management team.

Commissioners also approved a conditional use permit for indoor sports and recreation at a space located in the former Pacific Galleries warehouse at 901 9th Street North.

City documents state that due to the property’s zoning, a conditional use permit was required for the establishment of an “indoor sports and recreation” land use.

A tenant would like to use the space towards the back of the building for a bounce house and laser tag facility.

The building currently houses a gymnastics center and owners are working on a lease with the Sparkettes.
