City officials are seeking proposals for the full-time operation of a cafe/restaurant at the Community Recreation Center.

The now open space consists of 710 square feet of customer seating/serving area, 648 square feet kitchen area with a walk-in cooler, and 1,420 square feet of additional space next to the restaurant.

The city is interested in providing a quality addition to the Community Recreation Center that will complement the Center, promote a friendly atmosphere, and enhance the use of the facility, according to a press release.

The Community Recreation Center is located at 801 2nd Avenue North.

Proposal forms can be picked up at Park and Recreation, 1700 River Drive North. The sealed proposals are due by 3 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019.

Proposals must be mailed or delivered to:

(MAY 1, 2018) The DeMolay Cafe is now open at the Community Recreation Center offering another dining opportunity in the downtown area.

The restaurant, which opened on April 23, offers a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, and concession items including hot dogs, pretzels, and slushies.

The DeMolay Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through May.

At the beginning of June, summer hours start and the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Community Recreation Center is located at 801 2nd Avenue North.

It has been vacant for more than two years; it formerly was home to the Burger Bunker (which is now located on 5th Street South near 1st Avenue South), and before that it was Good Eats.

The Community Recreation Center building was originally built by DeMolay as a memorial to the DeMolays who had died in World War II especially the 15 members from Great Falls.

The building was designed to offer recreational facilities to youth and the cornerstone was laid in August of 1949. In the 1980s, the Center was in decline and by the mid-1990s, the owners put the building on the market.

The City Commission authorized the purchase of the building in 1997 and the Community Recreation Center opened its doors once again. To learn more about the Community Recreation Center, please visit the City of Great Falls’ website.
