It’s that time of the year for giving and two local businesses in Great Falls are doing just that.
Steel Etc challenged Scheels to match their donation of $2,000 to the Shop with a Cop Program.
Scheels is also matching $750 of community donations given through United Way of Cascade County’s Giving Tuesday event. This totals $1500 through United Way.
Altogether with both businesses and United Way, $5,500 was given to the Shop with a Cop Program.
The Great Falls Police Protective Association sponsors the Shop with a Cop Program every year, where cops take children out shopping during the holidays.
Great Falls Police Chief David Bowen said, “We rely solely on donations and so this generous gift from these business owners through united way really makes this program possible, we can actually take more kids this year and have an even better Christmas for these folks than we did last year.”
He added it’s a great night for both the kids and the cops.
Peter Philippi, who is the Store Leader at Scheels, said, “What an awesome opportunity to take a great police department and have it join hands with the community and really get out into the community and show people that we’re working together.”
The Shop With a Cop program allows cops to take kids out shopping during the holidays for anything from clothes to toys.
This year’s Shop with a Cop is set to take place in the community in the next few weeks.
