Municipal Court offering “food for fines” program on Friday

Posted

Great Falls Municipal Court will be hosting its annual “food for fines” event on Friday, November 30, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The program is designed for people who are making monthly payments on fines, and allows a person to bring in 10 cans or boxes of non-perishable, unopened food for a $50 payment toward their fine.

A press release from the city says that the payment will be applied to December’s payment.

You cannot bring 20, 30, etc. cans and have it count for more than $50. No matter the number of cans you bring, you only get $50 credit.

In order to participate, you must:

  • Be current on your fines
  • You must have fines in this court
  • If your balance is only Restitution, you may NOT participate
  • Not have an active warrant.
  • Not valid for deferred prosecutions.

In addition, Cascade County Justice Court is hosting its annual “Food For Fines” event in December.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (December 12,13,14), people who are making monthly payments on fines can satisfy one scheduled monthly payment by bringing in 10 cans/boxes of non-perishable food.

In order to participate and receive credit, a person must be current on fines; do not only owe restitution; have no outstanding warrants; and no new tickets. People should not bring out-of-date/expired or damaged food items, as they can not be used by the food bank and will not count as one of your donated items.

Court officials note that other restrictions may apply. The court is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For more information, call the court at 406-454-6873.

All donated food will be given to the Great Falls Community Food Bank.
