One Great Falls church is looking to help those in need this holiday season.

Alexander Temple Church of God in Christ will give out Thanksgiving meals this week.

1st Lady Antoinette Collins said her husband, Pastor Marcus Collins, brought back the idea from a national conference.

“One of our bishops at it said that is what he would do for Thanksgiving so my husband brought that idea back to Great Falls,” Collins said.

This is the sixth year the church has held a basket giveaway and they hope the event is bigger and better than years past.

Last year, they gave out baskets to 140 families in the community.

“This is something we take full honor in doing. To be a blessing to the community, and we are here looking forward to handing out the food baskets with a turkey and all the sidings,” Collins said.

Dessert will also be provided for families as well.

The church said the event gives families in need a chance to have a delicious Thanksgiving Day meal.

“It is a day where a lot of people set aside to be at home by themselves or with their loved ones. We are out enjoying other people and their families as well. That’s the most exciting part, being around others so you can share in the day of thanksgiving,” Collins said.

They will start handing out the baskets at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving at the Alexander Temple Church of God in Christ, 3726 5th Avenue North, Great Falls.
