Great Falls High School is digging deep into its creative side by utilizing clay from current construction projects.

The Great Falls High sculpture club has harvested clay brought up by drilling rigs working on the school’s expansion.

Students helped collect clay from the site Monday and are now letting it separate from rocks and other debris.

Once separated, the collected clay will be used by students to make holiday ornaments.

Art department head Cortni Harant said it’s an opportunity to have a unique piece of Great Falls High School.

“The intent is to create a little bit of kind of memorabilia if you will, for Great Falls High. I mean this was kind of a one and done because starting next week you’re going to be covering that all up in concrete,” she said. “They’re actually moving dirt today and getting ready to do that as soon as the ground thaws out so our intent is to make ornaments. We thought it would be something small and a keepsake people could have.”

Harant expects the ornaments will be available for purchase in December.
