(GREAT FALLS) On Saturday, the Bella Dea Rescue Foundation will be hosting their first ever open adoption day.
“Rescue does not mean worthless,” Bella Dea Rescue Foundation founder Angielynn Bella Dea said.
The foundation takes in horse rescues from the Department of Livestock and from private homes.
In partnership with the Missouri River Horsemanship, they are hoping to find homes for more than 20 horses.
To adopt, the Department of Livestock will do name screenings. The application process will require references, veterinary information and farrier information.
Once the adoption is approved, the Department of Livestock will issue a brand inspection and sign off on the adoption.
“In the winter time we have a lot of beautiful horses that need some time to get to know their new families before they can hit the trails in the spring, what better time to do it than now,” Bella Dea said.
The adoption day will be at the Missouri River Horsemanship at 2900 6th Street Northwest in Great Falls at 10 a.m.
“It’s a lifetime commitment. Horses can live upwards of thirty years. You have to be committed to them just like they are your children. You need to feed them, ensure their safety, make sure they are warm and make sure they are taken care of. You do all those things for an animal, especially to a horse, and they will return a favor to you,” Bella Dea said.
