(GREAT FALLS) CMR High School’s new auxiliary gym was packed with rustler pride on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of a new gym, fitness center, and stem classroom.

This $11.3 million project broke ground in September of 2017 and is now compete. The money came from a $98.9 million bond issue that citizens passed in October of 2016.

Among the speakers was Superintendent Tammy Lacey, Mayor Bob Kelly, CMR principal Kerry Parsons, and many more.

The celebration was topped off with a pep band, tours of the facilities, and of course a chance for people to mingle and share their CMR pride.

“The life lessons that I learned at CMR, that I’ve seen kids learn at CMR, the life lessons from school but also from sports. I’m a big sports fan and I love sports. I love to go to CMR games and it’s a lot more fun when the kids play hard and work hard. When they have a new facility like this it’s going to be a lot better for them to play hard and work hard,” said CMR supporter and donor Lynda Morin.

The new facilities will start being used this week, and they not just for athletes, but for PE and health classes too.

Retired athletic director Gary DeGooyer says it is so nice to see the project finally complete.

“I served the district for 20 plus years, and I was always hoping for a second facility and weight room for the rustlers. It’s very exciting and I’m very excited that the community supported it,” DeGooyer said.
