Great Falls and Cascade County prepare for snow

Although the weekend’s snow did not last long, the city of Great Falls is gearing up for the upcoming snow season.

Twenty percent of the Public Works Street Division budget is dedicated to snow removal during the winter months.

Street Supervisor Kenny Jorgensen said this year they made sure to buy more sand for the city streets due to last year’s winter lasting so long.

Jorgensen added they will work on summer projects for as long as they can, but they have plows and sanders ready to go for the snow.

Cascade County Public Works is also gearing up for the upcoming winter and Public Works Director Brian Clifton said they have three trucks ready to hit the roads.

They are currently converting their other trucks from their summer jobs.

Clifton said that any damaged roads from this spring’s flood have been repaired and are ready for the winter.

After a beautiful Monday, we return to cooler, less pleasant weather on Tuesday.

An approaching cold front will drop temperatures, and bring in scattered rain showers.

Snow is expected along the Rocky Mountain Front with over a foot of accumulation possible at higher elevations.

A Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning are in effect.
