Speeding car crashes in residential area of Great Falls

(SEPTEMBER 7, 2018) Two people were taken to the hospital after they crashed a car on Friday morning in Great Falls near the intersection of 4th Avenue South and 12th Street.

Witnesses told KRTV that the car going more than 60 miles per hour as it was speeding down the residential street.

According to the Great Falls Police Department, an officer was responding to a separate incident nearby when the red car sped past her.

The officer did not have time to respond before the red car crashed and the driver ran away from the scene.

The driver was found not far from the scene and both were taken to the hospital; the passenger had to be extricated from the car.

The nature and extent of their injuries has not been released. Their names have not yet been released.

The GFPD believes the vehicle may have been stolen.

The crash damaged several parked vehicles.

(UPDATE, 1:29 p.m.) The GFPD says that Officer Hronek is looking for the driver of a vehicle that was nearly t-boned at the intersection of 13th Street and 4th Avenue South on Friday morning.

The GFPD said: “Hronek witnessed a red Honda Accord, traveling westbound on 4th Ave S, swerve to miss a vehicle that was traveling on 13th St. The vehicle that was almost hit was likely a black Jeep Liberty, or something similar. The driver of the red Honda proceeded to crash into multiple vehicles in the 1200 block of 4th Ave S, causing several thousands of dollars of damage.The driver of the black vehicle is encouraged to call SPO Hronek at our non-emergency number (727-7688 X5), or reach out to us via private message (on Facebook).”

(UPDATE, 11:03 a.m.) Passenger in the vehicle was extricated and taken to hospital; nature and severity of injuries unknown at this point. The driver of the vehicle ran away but didn’t make it far before police found him. He was also taken to hospital for injuries. Police were responding to an unrelated incident nearby when an officer saw the red car speed past her. Before the officer could respond, she saw the car crash into several vehicles and a camper.


(UPDATE, 10:47 a.m.) Great Falls Fire Rescue says that it was a “high-impact motor vehicle accident.” Extrication is complete and patients have been taken to hospital, but the area is still congested. We have received several unconfirmed reports from witnesses who said that the crash happened during a high-speed chase.


(1st Report, 10:28 a.m.) Emergency crews are at the scene of a crash in Great Falls. It is near the intersection of 4th Avenue South and 12th Street. There is no word yet on whether anyone has been seriously injured. We have a reporter heading to the area and will keep you updated.
