Ridgetop Fire grows to over 9,000 acres

A wildfire in Petroleum County has now burned over 9,000 acres.

The Ridgetop Fire, which was reported on August 1, is now an estimated 9,794 acres and 30 percent contained.

The fire is located 35 miles north of Winnett on Bureau of Land Management land.

One minor structure is threatened, however, no evacuations or closures are in place.

There are 154 personnel from local and county fire departments, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, BLM, the Forest Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs assigned to the fire, according to InciWeb.

The lightning-caused fire is burning in short grass, brush, and timber.

On Saturday, firefighters conducted burnout operations and established a significant amount of control line. The operations were expected to continue Sunday.
