BILLINGS — The Yellowstone County Sheriff on Monday identified Carl Archer, Jr., as the man who was found dead at a Ballantine motel on Saturday.

Archer was 53 years old, and Sheriff Mike Linder said in Facebook post that Archer had a Billings address in the past but investigators believe he has been transient in recent months.

The cause and manner of death have not yet been released.

James R. Eder was arrested on Saturday several hours after Archer's body was found at the Tiger Town Motel in Ballantine.

Eder was booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a charge of homicide.



(NOVEMBER 3, 2019) James R. Eder has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a dead body found at the Tiger Town Motel in Ballantine early Saturday.

According to a press release from Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder, Eder, 32 years old, was arrested at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies and Billings Police Department officers made the arrest at 7 Alderson Avenue.

Linder said that Eder cooperated by walking out of the house once a perimeter was established.

Eder was booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a charge of homicide.

The identification of the male victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of relatives.
