GREAT FALLS — A reported standoff and shootout in Dillon on Sunday evening resulted in the death of Lewistown murder suspect Doug Foster.
Lewistown Police Chief Justin Jenness said in news release on Monday that Foster was "involved in an officer-involved shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene."
The Dillon Police Department posted on Facebook just after 10 pm: "We are happy to report that all our Officers and Deputies are going home safe tonight! Please have patience in the coming days and weeks as we conduct a complete investigation into tonight's incident."
Details of the incident have not yet been released.
Foster was the suspect in the Saturday shooting death in Lewistown of David Byron Sessions.
Central Montana Dispatch received a 911 call at about 5:35 a.m. on Saturday requesting medical assistance for a gunshot wound on the 100 block of Crystal Drive in Lewistown. Officers found Sessions dead at the scene. Police said that foul play is suspected, and began searching for Foster, 47 years old. He was seen leaving the area in a 1995 green Toyota Tacoma flatbed with Montana Plate 8-31182A. Police at the time cautioned at the time that Foster may be armed and should be considered dangerous.

(SATURDAY, MARCH 14) Police in Lewistown are investigating the shooting death of a man, and have named a "person of interest" in the case.
Central Montana Dispatch received a 911 call at about 5:35 a.m. on Saturday requesting medical assistance for a gunshot wound on the 100 block of Crystal Drive in Lewistown.
Officers found a deceased 52-year old man at the scene. The name of the man has not yet been released.
Police say that foul play is suspected, and are searching for a man they call a "person of interest." The man's name is Doug Foster, 47 years old. He was seen leaving the area in a 1995 green Toyota Tacoma flatbed with Montana Plate 8-31182A.
Police say that Foster may be armed, and advise that if you see him or the pickup, you should not approach him. Call 911 immediately.
No other details have been released at this point, and the investigation is continuing.
