Kalispell man arrested after leading police on a chase

GREAT FALLS — Arthur Lee Palmer of Kalispell is being held at the Flathead County Detention Center “pending numerous felony charges,” according to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Thursday when deputies began chasing a vehicle in the Evergreen area that had been reported stolen.

He crashed the vehicle on Rail Park Drive, but was still able to drive. Officers then used spike strips near Flathead Drive; he continued driving eastbound in the westbound lane of US Highway 2, but eventually stopped the car near the intersection of US Highway 2 and Montana Highway 35. He then got out and ran away, but was apprehended and taken into custody a short time later.

The Montana Highway Patrol and the Kalispell Police Department assisted deputies during the chase.

Palmer, 34 years old, is now facing felony charges of theft, criminal endangerment, eluding officers, and criminal possession of dangerous drugs in connection with Thursday's incident.

According to the Montana Department of Corrections, Palmer has felony convictions in Flathead County for burglary, theft (3), criminal endangerment, and DUI (3+).
