Homicide investigation underway in Kalispell

KALISPELL — The Kalispell Police Department has identified 53-year-old John Araujo as the man who was killed over the weekend.

On Saturday, officers responded to a residence on the southwest side of the city for a welfare check. In a press release, Captain Tim Falkner says there were no reports of suspicious activity or suspicious people in the neighborhood.

Shortly after that, a man asked to speak to an officer at the Kalispell police station. He told police that he had shot someone in his residence .

The man's residence was the same home where officers responded to the welfare check.

With this additional information, officers entered the home, where they found the body of Araujo.

The male suspect was interviewed and later released; his name has not yet been released, nor have details about the cause or manner of his death.

Police believe the men knew each other.

No charges have been filed at this time, and police are continuing to investigate.

The Kalispell Police Department does not believe there is a danger to the public.

Kalispell police said many details cannot be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
