GREAT FALLS — Tyrell Wade Nault was arrested in Cascade County after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase on Friday.
Sheriff’s deputies and the Cascade County Violent Crimes Prevention Task Force were trying to locate Nault, who had absconded from a corrections facility in Billings. Task Force members had information that Nault was driving a black Chrysler 300 and was heading toward Great Falls. The Violent Crimes Prevention Task Force initiated a plan to apprehend Nault immediately before he entered a highly populated area.
Deputies saw Nault at mile marker 117 of US Highway 200 (southwest of Simms) heading east. They tried initiate a traffic stop by activating emergency lights, but Nault continued east and began to increase his speed; he was clocked at 121 miles per hour at one point. The chase ended after deputies deployed stop sticks. Nault followed verbal commands and was taken into custody without any further incident.
Nault has felony convictions in Hill County, and is also wanted in Washington for drug and gun-related crimes, according to Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter.
Nault is facing the following charges from Friday's chase: Fleeing from or eluding a peace officer (M), reckless driving (M), operating a motor vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property, namely passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed in no passing zones, driving while license suspended or revoked (M), and operating a motor vehicle on a public highway while privilege to do so is suspended.
Sheriff Slaughter also noted that on June 25th, Nault led deputies and US Marshals on a high-speed chase through Great Falls. Deputies had to terminate the chase in the interest of public safety but continued to investigate the situation.
