GREAT FALLS — Leo James Hagan of East Glacier Park Village, accused of causing the death of one person and injuring another while driving in Glacier National Park in June, was charged in U.S. District Court in Great Falls on Monday.
U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said in a press release that Hagan, 19 years old, pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with involuntary manslaughter and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
The indictment alleges that Hagan was driving recklessly on June 11, 2019, near Lower Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park, when his actions caused the death of one person and seriously injured a second person.
Paul Cadotte, 40, of Starr School, died in the one-vehicle crash that happened around 12 a.m. on Two Medicine Road. The driver, later identified as Hagan, was arrested on DUI charges at the time.
If convicted, Hagan faces up to eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release on the manslaughter count, and up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release on the assault count.
U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided. Hagan was released pending further proceedings. His trial has been scheduled for November 4th.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kalah Paisley is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the National Park Service, Montana Highway Patrol, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services and the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office.
(JUNE 13, 2019) Authorities have released the name of a man who died in a Wednesday morning crash in Glacier National Park.

The driver — Leo J. Hagen, 19, of East Glacier Park — has been arrested on DUI charges.
Additional charges are pending and the incident is still being investigated. Another passenger in the vehicle was injured and hospitalized.
(June 12, 2019) A 40-year-old man died after a crash in Glacier National Park early Wednesday morning.
According to park officials, Glacier County dispatch received a call around 12 a.m. for a rollover accident on Two Medicine Road in the park.
A 40-year-old male passenger was found dead on scene while another passenger was injured.
Park officials reported that not all individuals were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
A press release stated all parties involved in the crash were Montana residents. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
Responding agencies included the Montana Highway Patrol, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, Glacier County, East Glacier Volunteer Fire Department, and Browning Ambulance.
The crash is under investigation.
