Man facing charges for robbing casino at gunpoint

(UPDATE, April 16, 2019) The charges against Carl Robert Tibbets have been dismissed without prejudice from Cascade County Justice Court.

There is no word yet on why they were dismissed.


(1st Report, April 9, 2019) A 33-year-old man is facing charges for stealing money from Emerald City Casino on Smelter Avenue Monday night.

According to the Great Falls Police Department, Carl Robert Tibbets allegedly wore a black ski mask and aviator sunglasses and threatened a casino clerk with a handgun.

The clerk gave him money and he fled on foot.

On Tuesday morning, dispatch received a call from a man and woman arguing in a vehicle. Police located the vehicle and found Tibbets inside.

They connected him to the Monday night robbery, according to GFPD, and found cash on him and aviators in the vehicle.

He is charged with theft and robbery.

Tibbets is known to local law enforcement. He has convictions for criminal mischief in Cascade County and escape in Yellowstone County.
