Melissa Ann Boutwell is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a man in the leg and refusing to comply with officer demands.

On January 12, several officers were dispatched to the 300 block of 8th Street South for reports of a disturbance.

Court documents state officers made contact with a man who said Boutwell had stabbed him in the leg with a kitchen knife. An approximately 1″ cut on the man’s leg was treated at the scene.

Police found Boutwell in a bedroom and observed that she was “not making much sense and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance,” according to court documents.

When an officer told Boutwell she was under arrest, she refused to get up and resisted being handcuffed. Court documents state she tried to roll away from the officer and at one point began to kick.

Officers were finally able to handcuff Boutwell, who was transported to the Great Falls Police Department and agreed to speak to an officer.

Boutwell told the officer the man had approached her with a knife and she had grabbed it with her bare hands, which resulted in minor cuts.

When interviewed, the man told police Boutwell was angry he had asked her to leave. He said she punched him in the face before stabbing him, according to court documents.

Boutwell has been charged with felony assault with a weapon and a misdemeanor for resisting arrest.

Prosecutors requested bond be set at $20,000. Boutwell has convictions for fraud-false statement in connection with purchase of a firearm, partner/family member assault, and resisting arrest. She also has a pending partner/family member assault charge.
